When a diving emergency happens, prompt action can make a significant difference. The PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course teaches you how to recognise diving-related illnesses and injuries that may benefit from emergency oxygen, and how to administer oxygen safely while waiting for the emergency services and onward medical care.
The course is suitable for both divers and non-divers and focuses on practical, hands-on learning in a relaxed and supportive environment. No previous medical training is required.

Training is practical throughout, giving every participant the opportunity to become familiar with the equipment.
Course Structure
Knowledge Development
You’ll learn how oxygen is used within the emergency response to diving incidents, when it may be appropriate and how it forms part of wider emergency care.
Practical Skills
Under instructor guidance you’ll assemble oxygen equipment, practise using different delivery devices, learn safe handling procedures and become familiar with equipment checks and operation.
Scenario Practice
The course concludes with realistic scenarios where you’ll apply the skills you’ve learned while working through a structured emergency response. The emphasis is on building confidence through practice rather than memorising procedures.
Course Requirements
There are very few prerequisites.
- No previous first aid qualification is required.
- No scuba certification is required.
- Participants should be able to understand and safely perform the practical exercises.
- Children may participate provided they are physically and mentally capable of completing the required performance skills.

Duration
This course is normally completed in a single day. Where scheduling allows, Emergency Oxygen Provider can often be combined with Emergency First Response or Rescue Diver training, making it an excellent addition to your diving education. Current dates are managed through the Wiltshire Scuba booking system.

Do I need to be a scuba diver?
No. The course is suitable for both divers and non-divers.
Is this the same as Emergency First Response?
No. Emergency First Response focuses on CPR and first aid. Emergency Oxygen Provider specifically teaches the safe use of emergency oxygen equipment during diving-related emergencies. The two courses complement one another extremely well.
Can I complete this alongside Rescue Diver?
Absolutely. Many divers choose to complete Emergency Oxygen Provider alongside Emergency First Response and Rescue Diver because the knowledge gained from each course supports the others.
Will I use real oxygen equipment?
Yes. During the practical sessions you’ll assemble and use oxygen equipment under instructor supervision.
Is there a minimum age?
There is no official minimum age for the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course. The programme is performance-based, so participants simply need to be capable of understanding the instruction and safely completing the required practical skills.
Does this certification expire?
The PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider certification does not expire. However, regular practice and refresher training are strongly recommended to help maintain confidence and practical competence.
