IDEST Technician Inspection Course – Part 1
Visual inspection of diving cylinders, inside and out
This is Part 1 of the IDEST technician inspection pathway, and the starting point for anyone who needs to inspect diving cylinders.
By the end of it you will be able to visually inspect a cylinder externally and internally, and decide whether it can be filled, needs testing, or needs further work.
Training is delivered by Wiltshire Scuba, an IDEST training centre (TC021) and IDEST test centre D7, in our own working workshop.

What You Will Be Able To Do
On completing the course you will be able to:
- Assess a diving cylinder visually, inside and out
- Decide whether a cylinder can be filled, needs testing, or needs further attention
- Complete booking-in and visual assessment paperwork correctly

Practical Workshop Training
The course runs partly as a presentation and partly in the workshop, and the workshop element is the point of it. You will do the work yourself rather than watch it being done.
Class sizes are small, so you get individual coaching rather than a demonstration from the back of a room.
Entry Requirements
This is the entry point to the pathway, so no previous cylinder inspection qualification is required.
A basic working understanding of scuba equipment is helpful. If you are unsure, ring us and we will tell you.

What comes after this course?
Part 2, the hydrostatic testing course. Part 1 is a prerequisite for it.
Do I need to be a diver?
No. It is a workshop course, not a diving course.
Will I inspect real cylinders?
Yes. The workshop session uses real cylinders and real inspection equipment.
