Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) Diver
One of the Most Valuable Skills a UK Diver Can Learn.
If you regularly dive in the UK, you’ll quickly discover that deploying a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) is considered an essential skill. Whether you’re diving from a boat, drifting with the current or ascending away from a fixed shot line, a DSMB helps surface cover know where you are and allows you to complete a controlled ascent safely.
This course teaches you how to prepare, deploy and use a delayed surface marker buoy confidently in a variety of recreational diving situations.
Why Learn to Deploy a DSMB?
Many newly qualified divers own a DSMB but rarely practise using it. The result is that deployment can become stressful precisely when you need it most.
This course builds confidence through structured practice so deploying a DSMB becomes a normal part of your diving rather than something you avoid. You’ll learn how to prepare a DSMB before the dive, select the appropriate reel or spool, deploy safely from underwater, maintain buoyancy during deployment, avoid entanglement, communicate with surface cover, and ascend safely after deployment.
