IDEST & IMCA Technician Inspection Triennial Update
Requalify as a visual cylinder inspection technician
Technician qualifications do not last indefinitely. This is the three-yearly update that keeps you current as an IMCA visual cylinder inspection technician.
It refreshes the inspection process end to end and requalifies you, working to IMCA requirements and the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.
Training is delivered by Wiltshire Scuba, an IDEST training centre (TC021) and IDEST test centre D7, in our own working workshop.
Who Is This Course For?
- Technicians whose inspection qualification is approaching three years old
- Technicians who are already past three years and need to requalify
- IDEST test centre staff who must stay current
- Centres keeping their technician records in order
What You Will Be Able To Do
On completing the course you will be able to:
- Visually assess diving cylinders inside and out, confidently and competently
- Decide which cylinders are safe and which need further testing
- Complete the booking-in form and the visual assessment form correctly
What The Course Covers
- The scope and operation of IDEST
- How cylinders are manufactured
- Methods of cylinder testing
- The tools and equipment you need
- Checking the external condition of a cylinder
- Removing the valve
- Checking the internal condition of a cylinder
- What to do when you find a problem
- Documentation and assessment paperwork
- The standards that apply
Practical Workshop Training
The update is assessed practically: you book a cylinder in, assess it, and complete the visual assessment form, the same as you would on a working day.
Class sizes are small, so you get individual coaching rather than a demonstration from the back of a room.
Entry Requirements
You should already hold the technician inspection qualification. This is a requalification, not a first course.
If you have never held it, start with the IDEST Technician Inspection Course Part 1 instead — ring us and we will point you at the right one.

Why Train With Wiltshire Scuba

Common Questions
How often do I need to do this?
Every three years. It is a triennial update, so the clock runs from your last qualification or update.
What if I am already overdue?
Ring us. Being past three years is common and is usually straightforward to put right, but the answer depends on how long it has been.
Is this the same as Part 1?
It covers the same ground, but as a refresh and requalification for someone who already holds the qualification rather than as a first course. It is shorter for that reason.
Do I get a new certificate?
Yes. You receive a technician certificate on successful completion.
Not Sure Which Course You Need?
