Your scuba equipment is one of the biggest investments you’ll make as a diver. Knowing how it works, how to care for it and how to recognise when something isn’t quite right will help you dive with greater confidence.
The PADI Equipment Specialist course is designed to help you understand your diving equipment, carry out routine care and maintenance, and identify when professional servicing is required.
Why Take Equipment Specialist?
Most divers know how to assemble their equipment. Far fewer understand how it actually works. This course helps you become more confident by explaining how your scuba equipment functions, routine care after diving, common equipment problems, correct storage and pre-dive equipment inspections.
Understanding your equipment helps you identify small issues before they become bigger problems.

No engineering knowledge is required.
What You Will Learn
Throughout the course you’ll gain a better understanding of regulators, Buoyancy Control Devices (BCDs), cylinders and valves, exposure suits, dive computers, weights and weight systems, masks, fins and snorkels, and accessories including SMBs, reels and torches.
This course does not qualify you to service life-support equipment. Equipment such as regulators and BCD inflators require servicing by appropriately trained technicians using manufacturer-approved procedures and parts.
Course Requirements
There are very few prerequisites. Participants should have an interest in scuba equipment and complete the required participant paperwork. Although many attendees are certified divers, the course is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about scuba equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I learn to service regulators?
No. Regulator servicing requires manufacturer-specific technician training. This course explains how regulators work and how to care for them, but it does not qualify you to carry out servicing.
Is this useful if I hire equipment?
Yes. Understanding scuba equipment helps you inspect hired equipment and ask informed questions before diving.
Do I need my own equipment?
No. However, if you already own equipment you’re welcome to bring it along.
Will this help me choose new equipment?
Absolutely. You’ll gain a much better understanding of different equipment types and how they suit different styles of diving.
What should I do after Equipment Specialist?
Many divers continue with Peak Performance Buoyancy, Rescue Diver and Dry Suit Diver.
