PADI ReActivate

Haven’t Dived for a While? Let’s Get You Back in the Water.

Whether it’s been a year, five years or even twenty years since your last dive, you’re not alone. Life gets busy. Careers change, families grow, and dive holidays don’t always happen as often as we’d like.

The good news is that you don’t need to repeat your Open Water Diver course. PADI ReActivate is designed to refresh your knowledge, rebuild your confidence and help you return to diving safely.

At Wiltshire Scuba, we tailor every ReActivate session to the individual diver. Some people simply need a gentle reminder of the basics, while others prefer a more comprehensive refresher. Either way, we’ll help you feel comfortable underwater again.

Why Complete ReActivate?

Your scuba certification doesn’t expire. However, if you haven’t been diving for a while, it’s sensible to refresh your knowledge and practical skills before returning to open water. Many dive centres also recommend or require a refresher if you haven’t dived for an extended period.

Completing ReActivate gives you the opportunity to rebuild your confidence, refresh important safety skills, become familiar with modern equipment, practise buoyancy and underwater control, ask questions in a relaxed environment, and prepare for your next diving holiday.

It’s about feeling comfortable again — not being tested.

Two divers in wetsuits jump from a dive boat into clear blue sea, wearing scuba gear and fins under a bright sky.

Is ReActivate Right For Me?

This programme is ideal if you:

  • Haven’t dived for several months or years
  • Feel a little rusty
  • Have booked a diving holiday
  • Have bought new equipment and want help using it
  • Simply want to rebuild your confidence before diving again

Every refresher session is tailored to your experience and current confidence level.

What You Will Do

ReActivate combines knowledge review with practical diving. Depending on your experience and the time since your last dive, your session may include:

  • Equipment assembly
  • Buddy checks
  • Buoyancy practice
  • Mask clearing
  • Regulator recovery
  • Controlled ascents
  • Underwater communication
  • Basic navigation
  • Dive planning
  • General confidence-building exercises

Your instructor will adapt the session to your needs rather than working through unnecessary skills.

Course Structure

Knowledge Refresh

Before entering the water, you’ll review the key principles of safe diving: dive planning, safe diving practices, equipment updates and modern recommendations where applicable. The aim is to refresh your understanding — not overwhelm you with theory.

In-Water Skills

Once you’re comfortable, you’ll complete a practical session under the direct supervision of your instructor. You’ll have time to practise the core skills that every diver should feel confident performing, at a pace entirely driven by you.

Course Requirements

To participate you must:

  • Hold a recognised scuba certification.
  • Be medically fit to dive.
  • Complete the required participant paperwork.

There is no maximum time since your last dive. Whether you’ve been out of the water for one year or twenty years, we’ll tailor the session accordingly.

What if I’ve forgotten everything? That’s exactly why ReActivate exists. Many divers are surprised how quickly their skills return once they’re back underwater. Your instructor will explain each exercise clearly and help you rebuild confidence step by step. There is absolutely no expectation that you’ll remember every detail from your original course.

What Is Included?

  • Knowledge review
  • Instructor-led refresher session
  • Practical in-water training
  • Air fills during training
  • Updated PADI ReActivate recognition where applicable

Equipment

If you already own scuba equipment, we encourage you to bring it with you. This allows you to become comfortable using your own equipment again. Equipment hire, where available, should follow the booking page. If you’re considering purchasing new equipment, our instructors are happy to offer impartial advice.

Duration

The duration of your refresher session depends on your experience and confidence. Current course lengths and available dates are shown on the booking page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has my certification expired?

No. PADI certifications do not expire. However, if you haven’t dived for some time, a refresher is strongly recommended before returning to open water.

How long since my last dive is too long?

There isn’t a fixed limit. Whether it’s been one year or twenty years, we can tailor the session to your needs.

Will I have to repeat my Open Water course?

No. ReActivate is designed to refresh your existing skills rather than repeat your original training.

Can I use my own equipment?

Yes. In fact, many divers find it helpful to become familiar with their own equipment again during the refresher.

What if I’m nervous?

That’s completely normal. Many divers feel slightly anxious after a long break. Your instructor will work at your pace and help you rebuild confidence gradually.

What should I do after ReActivate?

Once you’ve refreshed your skills, why not continue developing them? Many divers move on to Advanced Open Water Diver, Enriched Air (Nitrox), Dry Suit Diver or Rescue Diver.
